Motivation Monday + Buddy System

Can it really be?  Warmer weather is finally here??  If you are from the Midwest and reading this, you know all too well that this past winter was………….brutal!  With the hope of warmer days, I wanted to share with you a bit of my story, and what keeps me motivated to exercise.  

We cannot remember when we actually started, but for at least 7 years, my friend Elly and I have been walking, and now jogging, Fountain Lake in Albert Lea twice per week.  You might be thinking, yeah, but why is that so important?  Did I mention we start very early in the morning?  Do you think either of us would willingly get out of bed if the other wasn’t waiting?  The answer is no, we both know we need that accountability to get up and get moving.

 Our time jogging is so much more meaningful that we ever expected.  I really believe that exercising with a friend is as good for us mentally as it is physically.  Another really great benefit is that we also get to spend time outside before our busy days start.  Yes, it might be hard to get out of bed early, but the rewards are far greater than the sacrifice of a little less sleep. 

In the last few years we have even entered in some really fun races.  Last October we completed our first half marathon.   If you would have told either of us that we would actually pay money to run a race, we would have totally laughed it off.  Learning that we are capable of so much more than we expected is what has made our time so important.

Whether it be walking, jogging, biking or any other outdoor activity, I challenge you to find a friend and get out there!  You will never regret it and you may even be surprised at how much you really do enjoy outdoor exercise.
